Growth Mindset @ YTPS
To enable students to be future ready, YTPS leveraged on Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset to instill in students: a positive mindset towards learning, to raise aspirations and achievement. Children with a Growth Mindset see their intelligence as something that can be improved through active learning and good efforts. They also tend to be more resilient when challenged, welcome constructive feedback for improvement and are generally more reflective. Hence, being more independent and motivated learners.
The school is cognizant that teachers are the key drivers in bringing about the Joy of Learning (JoL) for the students, as well as, developing them holistically. Since end 2017, YTPS implemented a 2-phased 5-year Strategic Learning Direction to build staff capacity. The first phase of staff development (2018 – 2020) aimed to equip staff with skills to develop in students a growth mindset when facing everyday challenges. In the deepening phase (2021 - 2022), staff are inducted and equipped with strategies on ‘Learning How to Learn’, so that they can guide students, in using appropriate learning strategies to make their learning more productive and effective. In the 6-year Growth Mindset journey, students are taught skills and values through age-appropriate authentic and experiential learning experiences through the Total Curriculum.

Staff PD during TTT
Bite-sized sharing and facilitation by Year Heads are conducted during TTT. The school has adopted “The Growth Mindset Coach” book as a guide to develop teachers’ competencies and skills in guiding the students. We believe that having a Growth Mindset in the classroom can improve student engagement, motivation and achievement.
